PRN 0098 Fundamentals of Practical Nursing I
This course introduces students to the foundational theoretical concepts essential to health care occupations for the practical nursing profession. Emphasis is placed on understanding the health care delivery system, the roles and responsibilities of the practical nurse, and core nursing principles. Students will explore Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, basic concepts and principles of human structures and function, cultural diversity, and the nurse’s role as provider of care, communicator, and member of the profession. The course incorporates essential skills related to communication, safety, infection control, emergency response, ethical and legal responsibilities, and employability. Students will study wellness, disease concepts, anatomy and physiology, nutrition and diet therapy, computer literacy, and the application of critical thinking to patient care. This course consists of 90 theory hours.
