Academic Support Services

Academic Success Centers

An Academic Success Center (ASC), located in the library building on each campus, provides comprehensive academic support for currently enrolled PHSC students. Each ASC offers tutoring (both in-person and online), computer and software access, make-up testing, and resources for students with disabilities. The ASC staff collaborates with faculty to address educational gaps or learning deficiencies. The ASC Coordinators also provide academic coaching in the form of classroom visits, workshops, and student consultations.

Each ASC provides faculty make-up and accessibility testing. The ASC's at the North, Spring Hill, and Porter campuses also conduct common placement tests, TABE, and FCLE testing.

E-Learning and myPHSC

PHSC offers students the opportunity to take college credit courses through various methods of instructional delivery. All methods of delivery are equivalent in terms of objectives, learning outcomes, competencies, content, credit and transferability. E-learning courses include online courses delivered via the Internet and courses that combine on-campus with online learning. E-learning courses may require limited on-campus meetings for orientations, labs, test reviews and proctored tests. Required meeting dates are listed in the course schedule and in course syllabi. Additionally, all campus services, on campus and web based, are available to all PHSC students.

The College's online learning community, the myPHSC Bobcat Portal, connects students and faculty to their courses in Canvas, as well as resources needed to succeed. Logging in to the myPHSC Bobcat Portal allows users to access course information, communication tools, online tutoring services, student resources and technical support. Students also have access to community groups in which they are a member, as well as information regarding all student activities.

As members of the PHSC teaching and learning community, students have a responsibility to secure their PHSC Mail account against unauthorized access by creating a strong password using the self service password reset system. Also, students are responsible for protecting their account from being compromised by not sharing and/or giving out passwords.

Technical Requirements for E-Learning Courses

To ensure best online performance, view our basic technical requirements for E-learning courses. Some E-learning courses also may have specific requirements in addition to the basic ones. It is important to check the course schedule for information regarding these requirements.

In addition to personal computers, students may use the computers at PHSC's campus computer labs and libraries. Public libraries and various public access locations also provide computer access. Students planning to take an E-learning course on an off-campus, workplace computer should check with the employer's technology staff to avoid any potential problems with firewalls.

Technical Assistance

For E-learning course technical assistance, contact the E-Learning and Instructional Technology Helpdesk by calling 727-816-3311, sending an email to the Help Desk, visiting the support page, or selecting the Help tab on your myPHSC homepage

Internet/Online Courses

PHSC offers a number of credit and noncredit online courses for students. Students are required to have access to the Internet and to have a computer that meets the minimum requirements. These and other requirements are listed in the PHSC Course Schedule each term. Additional information may be obtained from the Student Affairs office or the E-Learning and Instructional Technology department.

Library Services

A full-service library is located on each of PHSC's campuses. The combined holdings of all libraries are over 90,000 books and over 2,000 audiovisual resources. In addition to print books and physical audiovisual resources, patrons may access more than 300,000 electronic books, over 100,000 electronic serials, and over 141,000 electronic images and streaming videos from more than 100 electronic databases. The Library Catalog allows students and faculty to locate physical and electronic resources held by PHSC's libraries, as well as borrow library resources owned by any college library in the Florida College System and State University System via UBorrow. Additionally, students and faculty can access Electronic Library Resources directly through our A-Z database list and via a link in Canvas.

The libraries provide full intercampus and interlibrary loan services. Copies of articles in books or journals owned by the library may be transmitted between libraries. Students can make use of study rooms, computers, KIC scanner, course reserve textbooks, and anatomy models at all campus libraries.

The library staff on each campus is trained to assist students and faculty to make full use of the library's facilities and materials. Instruction in using the library's resources is provided to any student or class that requests it. In addition, students can virtual library help, using our Ask a PHSC Librarian service. Instructors can make use of our embedded librarian services to have a librarian in their Canvas Course.

The West Campus library houses The Rao Musunuru, M.D. Art Gallery featuring regular shows with a variety of themes exhibited for the benefit of students, faculty and the community.
