EEC 1224 Emergent Literacy Through the Use of Children’s Literature
This course focuses on the early childhood teacher’s role in promoting emergent literacy in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Essential building blocks that contribute to later success in school can be mastered by children in a preschool setting that provides a literacy-rich environment. Early reading achievement and success in learning to read are influenced by the quality of children’s early experiences with print and language. Further emphasis is placed on picture books and other literary materials suitable for infants and young children.
