Academic Honors
The purpose of this Board Rule is to establish Board policy regarding academic honors.
A student will be placed on the President's Honors List when a 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 grade point average (GPA) has been earned while attempting at least 12 semester hours of college credit. A part-time student may be placed on the President's Honors List each time 12 semester hours of college credit have been accumulated with a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Any student graduating with an Associate in Arts Degree or an Associate in Science Degree, or a Bachelor of Science Degree or a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above in all college credit courses applicable toward a degree, including transfer credit hours, shall be graduated with honors, and receive one of the following three honors categories:
- Cum Laude – students with a cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) between 3.50-3.74.
- Magna Cum Laude - students with a cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) between 3.75-3.99.
- Summa Cum Laude – students with a cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of 4.00.
The determination of the three honors categories (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude) for the commencement ceremony is based on the cumulative grade point average at the end of the student’s last semester of enrollment prior to the semester of graduation. Students who have met the criteria for honors prior to their semester of graduation will be eligible for the honors cords at the commencement ceremony and have the honors category designation noted on their diploma and transcript.
