REA 0019 Compressed Developmental Reading

This compressed developmental reading course is designed to increase a student's ability to comprehend college-level, written material. Instruction is delivered through a combination of technology and instructor delivered content which offers a learning experience that helps students move more quickly through their developmental reading skills. This compressed mode enables students to receive instructor support and classroom engagement in concert with adaptive learning technology that focuses on individual deficiencies in reading. Students must pass the class with a "C" or better and complete a comprehensive end of course exam. Four (4) compensatory credits will be earned. This course does not apply toward a degree.

Prerequisite

Appropriate placement test score.

Notes

Exempt students are not required to take a common placement test and are not required to enroll in developmental education instruction.  An exempt student is defined as:
  • Students who entered 9th grade in a Florida public school in the 2003-2004 school year, or any year thereafter, and earned a Florida standard public high school diploma.

  • A student who is serving as an active duty member of any branch of the United States Armed Services.

If you believe this exemption applies to you, you will need to provide proof of your exemption to an admissions representative at any PHSC campus for your exemption to be processed. After your exemption has been processed, it is recommended to meet with an advisor to discuss your academic plan.
