Academic Advisement

After completion of the New Student Orientation, all new students are required to attend a group advising session. During the group advising session, an academic advisor walks students through the student portal and its many functionalities. The advisor is also available to assist students with academic and career planning, course selection, and class registration, as appropriate. Advisors are available on campus each weekday by appointment and through Virtual Drop-In Advising. During peak registration, advisors will not be available for appointments, but continuing students can use the Virtual Drop-In Advising for assistance. New students can use the virtual advising or come on campus to meet with an advisor. Students are encouraged to see their academic advisor before registration begins each term to obtain the maximum benefit from the advisement opportunities.

Students are encouraged to meet with the same academic advisor regularly to ensure they are taking the appropriate classes toward completing their educational goal. This helps build a healthy relationship to assist students with their studies and guide them to resources if needed. Early advisement and registration help ensure the best selection of courses. After advisement, students who are in good academic standing with PHSC use the College's online registration system (WISE) to add or drop classes. All students, regardless of academic standing, can utilize WISE to pay course fees by published deadlines, and update personal information at any time.

Students using veteran's benefits should schedule an appointment with their Veteran Affairs Advisor.
