THE 2304 Script Analysis

This course teaches theatre students the techniques of close reading of dramatic texts. It focuses on acquiring and practicing the basic skills of script analysis necessary for theatre practitioners. Through reading, discussion, and other methods, we will explore the various ways in which plays work. A key question throughout the course will be: The course will explore how the playwrights use action and other structural elements to generate dramatic effects, embed information, and create meaning. The course will consider how directors, actors, and designers can discover and use these structural elements to make specific artistic choices for theatrical production. This course must be completed with a grade of "C" or higher.
