NUR 1021 Fundamentals of Nursing

This course provides students with concepts of beginning critical thinking, communication skills and evidence-based practice. Students learn basic theoretical concepts in the art and science of nursing and use the nursing process to organize basic nursing care of adult clients in a safe, legal, and ethical manner. Maslow's hierarchy is presented as a guide to prioritizing basic human needs relating to oxygenation, nutrition, elimination, comfort and safety, security, and mobility. Students learn the role of the nurse as a member of the healthcare team focusing on providing quality care, health promotion/wellness and disease prevention for clients and their families.
